Creative Writing
We read the novel Bodega Dreams in class. We had to write a play where we had to predict what was going to happen next in a new scene.
Chino’s Deception
Blanca: Hello?
Bodega: Hi is chino there?
Blanca: No who’s asking?
Bodega: This is his friend Bodega.
Blanca: Oh sorry he’s not here. I’ll tell him you called. Can you just leave a message?
message and I’ll give it to him?
Bodega: Ok tell him not to forget about the deal we had together.
Blanca: What deal are you talking about?
Bodega: You don’t know? He was suppose to hook me back up with Vera.
Blanca: What Vera are you talking about cause it damn sure ain’t my Vera?
Bodega: Are you her niece?
Blanca: Yes I am. How in the world you know Vera?
Bodega: We use to date each other back in our young teenage years. She was my sweetheart.
I miss her to death and I want her back.
Blanca: Oh I remember you now you were her low down dirty boyfriend. I haven’t heard or seen you in years.
Bodega: Excuse me what did you just call me? Listen I didn’t call to argue. I called here for a specific reason.
Blanca: Listen, she doesn’t want anything to do with you. And besides she’s married. She doesn’t even live here anymore.
Bodega: What do you mean?
Blanca: I mean she moved out of New York. Listen I got to go, I have a lot of stuff to do. But I will definitely tell Chino you called.
Bodega: Ok don’t forget.
Blanca: Bye.
Bodega: Bye.
Chino comes in the house 2 hours later. Blanca is sitting on the sofa very mad and speechless. Chino figures something is wrong with her so he walks in without anything to say.
Blanca: I can’t believe you did that behind my back. What the hell were you thinking Chino?
Chino: What did I do? I just came in the house. You are crazy.
Blanca: You know what the hell I’m talking about. You are making deals behind my back about my Aunt Vera. And then you’re not even telling me shit. Then at the same time you’re dealing with Bodega, of all people.
Chino: I did it for a reason and besides you don’t even know Bodega.
Blanca: I know him Stupid, he used to date my aunt. And why didn’t you tell me you made a deal with him?
Chino: Because we needed a bigger and better place for me, you, and the baby to live. And Bodega was the only one to help us get what we need.
Blanca: Listen, this sounds like a bad idea. I know him, he’s bad news, my aunt used to date him. And he was living crazy back then. I could only imagine now. I’m very disappointed in you dragging my aunt in your and Bodega’s shit. Leave her out. She ain’t got nothing to do with anything. I mean it Chino. If I hear you’re still doing this behind my back you’re dead. My stomach is hurting, I don’t want to talk about this any more. But before I go I’m going to tell you one thing. If you continue to go on with this I will leave you and the baby will come with me. So think about this before you do something you will regret.
Chino: Ok I’ll talk with Bodega tomorrow.
Blanca: This is really turning me against you. And besides we don’t need Bodega, his money, or his help. Just do the right thing and good will come to you, ok? I love you
Chino: You’re right. I’m sorry. I love you. I should have told you but I didn’t have the balls. I was afraid of how you would respond. But now I know what to do. Thanks for the long lecture. I really appreciate it.
Blanca: what do you think husbands and wives are for? You got me and I got you. And next time leave my aunt Vera out of your affairs. I’m still mad about that.
Chino: ok
Blanca: let me get my mind straight. I’m going to get ready for bed because I’m tired.
Chino: ok I’m sorry again I’m going to make it up to you.
Blanca goes to bed and chino sets on the sofa in the living room thinking hard about what he did. And whether or not he’s going to go through with the deal.
